Vincent van Gogh: Turning Japanese
Vincent van Gogh turning Japanese (Song by the Vapors)
What i tried to to do with this slide show is show Vincent's interest in japonism. Not only did vincent adopt Japanese effects such as cloissonism (the outline), perspective and the imitation of crepe in his paintings, but he also attempted to live as a Japanese monk, moving to S. France in the process. Effectively, "Turning Japanese" allowed him to escape his insecurities about his artistic ability, removing any inhibitions and creating masterpieces in the process.
There are a couple of other themes included in the slides such as the couples of lovers which frequently appear in Vincent's works, the portraits of friends, and turbulent landscapes.
