The bounce-splash of a viscoelastic drop
Federico Hernandez-Sanchez, Ledesma Rene, and Zenit Roberto authored this entry for the Gallery of Fluid Motion of the 61st Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society (Division of Fluid Dynamics).
This video shows the collision and rebound of viscoelastic drops against a solid wall. Using a high speed camera, the process of approach, contact and rebound of drops of a viscoelastic liquid is observed. The authors found that these drops first splash, similar to what is observed in Newtonian colliding drops; after a few instants, the liquid recoils, recovering its original drop shape and bounce off the wall.

This is a 1,800 / 800 particle 1600x900 resolution simulation recorded using FRAPS on an E8400@3.6GHz(400MHzx9) / X-38 / 4GB-PC6400@400MHz / 512MB-8800GT@Stock / VistaX64.
It uses one CPU core only. This is a newer version. Also i modified some properties of the particles to make them behave differently just to experiment with.
There is no download for this. But you can play a similar web-based java version online here: http://kotsoft.googlepages.com/solid.html (right click to freeze/unfreeze)
