Cabo Wabo - Eddie Van Halen Guitar Solo
Please Note: There have been many comments left on these Van Halen Cabo videos about how the camera work sucks, and that the cameraman is an idiot for panning away during Eddie's solos. I agree 110% When I first saw the "dailies" when the crew got back from Cabo, I was very disappointed.. I too wanted to see Eddie's great guitar work...
BUT, In defense of the cameraman, a lot of Producers are clueless when it comes to the shots we musicians / fans enjoy... The Producers are only looking for "video bites" (B-Roll), to edit in with other audio material... So we can't really blame the cameraman in all the Van Halen / Cabo videos I have posted, as he is just doing what he was told to do. Now, that being said...
Here's a great version of Cabo Wabo done by Van Halen at the opening of the 1st Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas. This was shot when Eye On LA did a story for the local ABC affiliate. The sound was taken from the mixing board and really shows the intricate technique of Eddie. There is some audio break-up and hiss, as the audio capture device was wireless. Needles to say, with all the electrical sources in the Cantina, there is bound to be some break-up. Check out the awesome taps, dive bombs, trills, hammer ons and offs, etc. as Eddie just rips. The guy is definitely a Guitar Virtuoso.....
